What is colloidal oatmeal used for?
Colloidal oatmeal is a light coloured powder with some coarse pieces. It is produced by grinding whole oats into a fine powder. It is often used for its moisturising and alleviating properties and is commonly found in cosmetic products such as lotions, face masks, milk baths, soap and creams.
Colloidal oatmeal is very gentle on the skin making it suitable for all skin types but in particular sensitive skin. When used in cosmetic formulations colloidal oatmeal can create a protective layer over skin, acting as a barrier to retain moisture and keep irritants out. It can also help to relieve itchy or dry skin.
Colloidal oatmeal can be added to water to create a milk bath as it soothes stressed and irritated skin. Simply sprinkle a cupful into warm bath water or fill a muslin bag with the powder, drop it into the water and soak.
