What is colloidal oatmeal?

Colloidal oatmeal is a light coloured powder with some course pieces. It is produced by grinding whole oats into a fine powder.

Colloidal oatmeal is very gentle on the skin making it suitable for all skin types. It is particular good for sensitive, dry and itchy skin types.

What is colloidal oatmeal used for?

Colloidal oatmeal is often used for its moisturising and alleviating properties and is commonly found in cosmetic products such as lotions, face masks, milk baths, soap and creams.

When used in cosmetic formulations colloidal oatmeal can create a protective layer over skin, acting as a barrier to retain moisture and keep irritants out. It can also help to alleviate itchiness in itchy or dry skin.

Colloidal oatmeal makes a soothing soap bar and also adds gentle exfoliating benefits. Ground oatmeal is often used in soap for sensitive skin and dry skin due to its gentle effect on the skin.

Colloidal oatmeal can be added to water to create a milk bath as it soothes stressed and irritated skin. Simply sprinkle a cupful into warm bath water or fill a muslin bag with the powder, drop it into the water and soak.
