Cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAPB) is a liquid surfactant derived from coconut oil. It is very mild and has great foaming properties.
CAPB is an amphoteric surfactant, meaning it can function as both a cationic and anionic surfactant. It is often mistakenly referred to Coco Betaine, which is a different surfactant.
What is Cocamidopropyl Betaine Used For?
Cocamidopropyl Betaine is used as a foam booster in skin care, hair care and household products. It can be used in personal care products like bubble bath, shampoos, body wash, shaving cream and cleansers.
It is water soluble and should be added to the heated water phase or cool down phase of a formulation. The recommended usage rates for cocamidopropyl betaine are 4–40%.
