Polysorbate 80

Polysorbate 80

Polysorbate 80 will take your bath bombs to the next level! Polysorbate is an emulsifier and solubiliser that is used in a wide range of cosmetics from shampoos to make up. You’ll sometimes hear to it referred to as Tween 80 and it has a golden yellow colour and a neutral scent.

Uses of Tween 80

The main use of Polysorbate 80 is to help other ingredients dissolve in something they wouldn’t normally be able to dissolve in. For example, Polysorbate helps oil dissolve in water.

Polysorbate 80 in Bath Bombs

Polysorbate 80 is very commonly used in bath bombs as it makes them so much better! It helps you use less mica powder as it will enable the colour to disperse and give the water a much more vibrant colour. It also prevents the colour from sticking to the bath tub or your skin.

Polysorbate or Tween 80 also helps any oils in the bath bomb disperse more evenly, so you no longer get a layer of oil sitting on top of the bath water. This not only looks better, but makes the bath bombs more effective as the oils can then absorb into the skin.

Give it a go in your next bath bomb recipe with a ratio of 1:1 of oils and polysorbate 80. Don’t forget to share your bath bomb creations with us on Facebook or Instagram!

On its own, Polysorbate 80 is an excellent solubiliser of dispersing agents, stabilisers, viscosity modifiers, wetting agents, and essential oils.
