What is juniper Juniper berry essential oil?
Juniper berry essential oil (Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil) is steam distilled from the fruit of the evergreen tree and has a crisp, fresh woody scent.
Is your juniper essential oil pure?
Unfortunately juniper berry oil is commonly adulterated. You have to be extremely cautious when sourcing this oil, because in our experience more than 50% of commercially available juniper oil is adulterated.
Fermented juniper berries are the by-product of the gin industry, and are often used and combined with juniper wood and twigs to produce an oil similar to juniper berry oil. However, just because it is made from juniper by-products, doesn’t make it 100% pure juniper berry oil.
Worse than that, this mixture is often blended with turpentine to create an even cheaper substitute. Unfortunately this is widely sold on the UK market as juniper berry essential oil.
As with all our essential oils, our juniper berry essential oil is 100% natural and contains no synthetic fragrance.
How do we know our juniper oil is pure?
Any supplier of juniper berry oil has to have a testing regime in place to make sure that it is 100% pure. With adulteration so common, we would say that if you haven't done a GCMS analysis to make sure it is pure, then it isn't pure.
Once we've tested it, you've got to know what you're looking for. The people making adulterated juniper oil are quite good at it, so it can be tricky to spot.
We take care of all of that for you, to make sure the only juniper berry essential oil we offer is 100% pure.
How is juniper essential oil made?
The production of our juniper berry essential oil is incredibly sustainable. The berries are collected from wild juniper bushes, which can live up to 600 years!
The bushes will produce berries throughout their lifespan, so there's little need to uproot old bushes and plant new ones. It really is a process of working hand in hand with nature without any harmful impact on the bushes at all.
Juniper berry essential oil is a fantastic natural ingredient but needs to be used with a little caution. Essential oils can sensitise skin and shouldn't be applied to the skin directly or consumed. Please consult a doctor before use if pregnant and always keep out of reach of children.
