What is sweet almond oil?

Sweet almond oil is extracted by pressing the kernels of the almond tree. This carrier oil is refined and has a light golden colour and a subtle scent.

When sweet almond oil is used in cold process soap making it adds to the conditioning effect of the bar, and a little to the hardness and creaminess of the bar.

It had been used in Ancient Chinese, Ayurvedic and Greco-Persian schools of Medicine to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

It has been used for centuries in cosmetics and for medicinal uses to treat various skin conditions and more recently found in therapy rooms for use as a massage oil.

Sweet almond oil has a comedogenic rating of 2, meaning there is a low chance of clogged pores. Due to its hydrating properties, sweet almond oil is suitable for most skin types including dry skin, oily skin and sensitive skin.

Almond oil is a popular oil in hair care formulations and is often used in conditioners, hair masks, hair treatments and hair oils. Almond oils' high amount of fatty acids help to strengthen and nourish the hair and scalp.

Make your own skin treatment with sweet almond oil



  1. Melt your shea butter and coconut oil in a microwave, or in a bowl over boiling water

  2. Add the sweet almond oil and essential oils to the melted shea and coconut

  3. Mix the oils and butters together until fully combined

  4. Remove from the heat and place in the fridge to cool

  5. Once the mixture is looking like it is starting to set, whisk for 5-10 minutes. It should reach a light, creamy consistency

  6. Now your skin treatment is ready for use!

How to make an almond massage oil

Sweet almond oil is a great carrier oil for massage oils as it is very nourishing on the skin. Apply almond oil to the skin directly with the diluted essential oil for a relaxing massage oil.

For refreshing and cooling massage blends, dilute 10ml of peppermint essential oil into 1L of almond oil.

For a relaxing massage blend, dilute 10ml of lavender essential oil into 1L of almond oil.
