Halloween Candle Recipe
Ingredients
- Soy wax 300g
- Paprika powder 50g
- Clary sage oil 9g
- Frankincense oil 9g
- Bergamot oil 3g
Method

1. Weigh the soy wax
- Weigh 50g of the soy wax into a heatproof bowl
- Heat the wax in a double boiler or place your bowl of soy wax over a saucepan with boiling water
- Continuously stir the wax until it has fully melted
- Once the wax has completely melted, keep the wax at a temperature of 40°C

2. Create the ghost design
- Place your candle container on its side, so when we add the candle wax it does not run down to the bottom.
- Scoop a spoonful of the candle wax onto a spoon and carefully pour it into the side of the container.
- Using the spoon, carefully spread the melted wax to form a rough ghost shape. The wax should set fairly quickly on the side.
- Repeat this as many times as you want around the inner edge of the candle container.
- Using a marker, draw two dots for eyes and another dot as a mouth on the white ghost shapes on the outside of the container. Now your ghost design is finished!

3. Prepare the container
- Once the decoration has been completed, place a wick sticker on the bottom of your wick and place it to the bottom of the container
- Lay the wick holder on the top of your container, with the wick in the centre hole

4. Prepare your paprika powder
- Using a small square of cheese cloth, pour the paprika into the centre.
- Gather all of the edges together and tie it tightly to secure the colourant in the pouch.
- Tie a pencil or wick holder, to the remaining amount of cloth. This will help hold the pouch in the wax.

5. Melt the soy wax
- Weigh 250g of soy wax into your heatproof container.
- Place your container in a saucepan with hot water to melt the wax or fill a slow cooker with some water and place your container in the heated water.

6. Infuse the wax
- Make sure the melted wax is around 60°C, then sit your pouch of paprika into the wax and place a lid on top.
- Leave this to infuse into the wax, making sure to keep the wax at 60°C. We infused our wax for 8 hours and we love the colour!
- You can infuse the wax from 8 hours to 24 hours. The longer you infuse the wax, the stronger the colour will be. If you want to heat it for longer than 8 - 12 hours, we would recommend using a slow cooker so you can heat the wax for a full 24 hours.

7. Add the essential oils
- Weigh out the clary sage oil, frankincense oil and bergamot oil in a separate bowl
- Once the wax has been infused, remove the cloth with the natural colourant
- Leave the wax to cool to around 57°C
- Once the melted wax has reached this temperature, add the essential oils
- Continuously stir the mixture while it cools to avoid it solidifying on the edges

8. Pour into your candle container
- Leave the wax to cool to around 40°C and then pour it into your candle container.
- Make sure to hold the wick holder as you pour the mixture to keep the wick centered.
- Leave the candle to set for 2 weeks and trim the wick to about ½ an inch.
- Test the candle by burning it for around 4 hours (you want the candle to melt to the edges)
TIP: Don't make the white wax too thin when making the ghosts, as it may melt too quickly when pouting in the orange wax!
