What Are Wax Melts?
Wax melts are simply small scented candles that do not contain wicks.
Unlike other candles, you don’t light wax melts to burn them. Wax melts are melted over heat to slowly melt the candle and release the scent.
Why Make Your Own Wax Melts?
Wax melts are great for beginners as they are simple to make from the comfort of your own home. They are an amazing homemade gift for friends and family too!
If you are like us and love natural essential oils in your wax melts, then you can enjoy the therapeutic aromatherapy benefits of the essential oils!
Our favourite thing about making wax melts at home, is that the scent can be customised! If you’re not a fan of rose scented wax melts, you can try peppermint, cedarwood, patchouli, lavender and more.
You can use them individually or blend them like this:

Just find your favourite fragrance in our essential oil collection and check section 12 in the IFRA document (this tells you how much you are allowed to add to the candle).
We wouldn't recommend adding more than 10% of essential oils to your candle. For example, if you are using 100g of candle wax, you can use up to 10g of essential oil.
When making wax melts from home you can also ensure you are using natural ingredients! Unlike commercial wax melts that use paraffin wax and synthetic fragrance oils, you can use 100% natural soy wax and natural essential oils.
Soy wax is an environmentally friendly wax and is the most popular choice for candles and wax melts. You can also use beeswax, palm wax, coconut wax and more!
If you are changing the fragrances or candle wax, it can change the final result slightly so make sure you test the product!

How to Use Wax Melts
Now you know how to make wax melts, you need to make sure you use it correctly. Wax melts are not lit like other candles. Instead wax melts are placed over a small flame so they slowly melt and release their fragrance.
To use your wax melts, you will need a wax burner (also known as a wax warmer or tealight burner).
The heat source comes from the bottom of the burner, where you would place a small tealight candle. Then you just need to place the wax melt on the top of your wax burner and watch it slowly melt!
