Autumn is officially here and you know what that means! It’s time to break out the cosy sweaters, grab a hot drink, and light a candle!
There’s nothing better than having a cosy home as the weather cools down, so why not fill each room with warm autumn scented candles!
Why Make Autumn Candles?
If you want a 100% natural customisable candle, then make your own from the comfort of your own home!
Commercial autumn candles can be expensive and they are often made with synthetic paraffin wax and fragrance oils. Making your own DIY candle means you can recreate your favourite autumn candles with natural wax and essential oils for a fraction of the price!
Our autumn candle recipe is really simple and you can customise the scent to match your autumn mood. We are using spices and a hint of citrus to create a warm spicy candle.
Autumn Candle Recipe
Equipment:
- Digital scales
- Digital thermometer
- Silicone spatula/ spoon
- Heatproof bowl
- Plastic measuring jugs
- Glass candle container/ mason jar
- Pre waxed candle wicks
- Wick stickers
- Wick holder
Ingredients:
- Soy wax flakes 250g
- Cinnamon oil 2g
- Cardamom oil 6g
- Sweet orange oil 4g
- Clove oil 4g
- Ginger oil 2g
Method:

1. Prepare the container
- Place a wick sticker on the bottom of your wick and stick it to the bottom of your candle container.
- Make sure the wick is central and place the wick holder on top of the container to hold the wick in place.

2. Weigh the soy wax
- Weigh the soy wax into a heatproof bowl.
- Using a double boiler, gently heat the wax until it has fully melted. Make sure to continuously stir the wax as it melts.
- Remove the melted wax from the heat and leave it to cool.

3. Add the autumn essential oils
- Measure the cinnamon, cardamon, orange, clove and ginger essential oils in a separate bowl.
- Test the temperature of your soy wax. Once it reaches 57°C, add the essential oils.
- Mix the wax and essential oils together to combine the mixtures. As the wax cools it may start to solidify around the edges, so stir the wax continuously.

4. Pour the wax into a container
- Test the temperature of the wax again, it should be around 40°C.
- Carefully pour the wax into your prepared container.
- Make sure to hold the wick holder as you pour the mixture to keep the wick centered.
- Leave the autumn candle to set for 2 weeks and trim the wick to about ½ an inch.
- Test the candle by burning it for around 4 hours (you want the candle to melt to the edges)
